Automatic Garage Doors
Can I convert my manual garage door to automatic?

Yes! Eastern Garage Doors offer a full upgrade service for automatic garage doors in St Albans, and we can provide upgrades to an existing model that is already in place.

In fact, it is now even possible to connect our automatic doors to a mobile phone application, so you can control your garage doors straight via bluetooth.

Can electric or automated garage doors still be opened manually?

Yes – All of our automated products also contain manual overrides on the outside, as well as internal push buttons to ensure that you’re not locked out in the event of a failure.

Sectional Garage Doors
How does a sectional garage door work?

Sectional garage doors are a favourite choice for the 21st century, mainly because they are strong, insulated and sealed, with a range of modern finishes, designs and colours.

They are derived from industrial doors, having between 4 and 6 horizontal panels that are normally made from galvanised steel with a laminate or polyester paint finish. The outside panel is a flat surface and as they close the side tracks are slightly tapered allowing the door to close against a rubber seal. Bearing in mind it has moving parts it is very close to being 100% sealed. The seals are down the sides, across the top and there is a seal attached to the bottom panel that seals along the floor. The floor seal is dependent on the condition of the floor itself. We offer a variety of floor seal options.

The door construction is made of a double skin composite panel comprising of two skins of steel with an insulated foam core. There is also a rubber seal situated where the panels interlock. The panels are secured with rollers inside which travel in a vertical and horizontal track connected with a 90 degree curve, so when the door is open it retracts horizontally back inside the garage slightly higher than the door opening. This gives maximum height.  The headroom requirements range from 130mm to 250mm depending on the door size and gear configuration. There are different panel thicknesses available from 20mm to 80mm, the common doors are 40mm – 45mm, the thicker the door panel the greater the insulation properties.

How long should my sectional garage door last?

As long as the door is maintained they should last 30 – 40 years. As with any door they have moving parts, and automatic doors especially do need regular service and maintenance. This differs slightly with different manufacturers, however as a general rule we suggest a yearly service for normal domestic use.
