Here we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about garage door servicing to help make sure you have the information you need.

Why does my automatic garage door need servicing?

Automatic garage doors are machines with mechanical and electrical moving parts. They have wearing components and safety features, so they do need regular maintenance and safety checks. These checks are normally carried out by a competent and experienced individual. This is what is included in a service:

Check and adjust if necessary all safety systems
Lubricate moving parts with the correct lubricant
Check that cables, springs and rollers are aligned, tensioned and positioned correctly
Check the manual overrides and battery back ups are working correctly
Check the range or the remote controls
Check for any faults of warranty issues
Make sure the customer knows how to override and reset the door in the event of a power failure

My remote controlled garage door has stopped working, will a service fix it?

This is difficult to define. Normally, if a garage door has stopped working, it is due to a fault. It could be something simple like the power has been inadvertently switched off or tripped, or it could be that the spring or settings need adjusting, which is part of a service. Then again, it could be part of a bigger issue, if the simple checks don’t work please call us or send us information.

My automatic up and over door will not open or close, can I do anything myself?

There are a few simple checks you can do which may help solve the immediate issue:

Check that the motor unit is switched on and has power. There should be a light or it should make some noise when you press the remote or ‘up’ switch.
Check there are no obstructions inside the garage and the track system is clear.

It may be that the manual override red cord has been pulled and the operator has not been re-engaged. This would be evident in that the motor will be working but not lifting the door. Please check your operating instructions to reconnect.

Please remember that all automatic doors should be fitted with a manual override so that the door can be opened and closed in the event of a power failure.

My door opens slightly and then stops, what can I do?

This is normally where the spring or operator needs adjusting and it will require a specialist. However, in the meantime, you can sometimes help it to open as a short-term measure by relieving some of the extra pressure. Please check for any obstructions first.
