Top Garage Door Trends
What is the new trend in garage doors? As diverse as the types, styles, and functionality might be, some standout themes are emerging based on peoples’ desires to want to be individual, so we’ve rounded up the key trends that we’ll be welcoming into our homes over the coming years.
Smart Security
We see the future of access – and it’s smart. Technologists are reshaping remote key entry in favour of connecting to ‘Home Control Systems’, allowing control via apps and voice command platforms. Features like geofencing open or close doors based on your location, while real-time security alerts enhance safety.
Some of the more relatable technologies are found in home networks with automatic presence detection that conveniently control operators and locking at any time of day or night, from anywhere in the world – along with other linked devices for lighting, smoke detection, security cameras, and others.
Modern Designs
There’s still room for originality when it comes to garage door design and function.
Silvelox’s SECURLAP technology is different. It features a bi-panel sectional system without ceiling tracks to create a streamlined modern vibe with a high degree of customised finish.
Hörmann, the brand that offers ‘zero-carbon’ solutions showcases a considered refinement of tones. We love the Silkgrain, Micrograin, Planar and natural slate textures that give a distinctive appearance. It’s a contemporary twist that’s typical of the brand’s clever attention to detail.
Energy-Efficient
There is a lot of talk about the eco-upgrade of homes. The future is ‘No holds barred’. But, as far as garage doors go, the latest models already combat heat loss at sub 1 W/m²K. Currently unregulated, except when adjunct to heated rooms – Realistically can it get any better? Futuristically speaking, maybe! Advancements in nanomaterials, bio-based materials, or smart insulation systems could revolutionise home insulation. These innovative technologies, some equipped with embedded sensors that monitor and adjust to temperature in real-time, could appeal to the ‘early-adopter’ eco-conscious homeowners of the future.
Natural Colours
Natural colours might not feel like a trend – after all we’ve always championed a wide palette at Eastern Garage Doors – but we have noticed a step change in the way homeowners are combining organic hues. You’ve heard the phrase ‘red and green should never be seen’ – usually associated with fashion or interior design. There is a popular exception with garage doors – Chartwell Green’s softly toned pop of colour against contrasting red brick.
Other soft tones are also emerging as a hot trend among manufacturers, most notably in the ‘Trend+’ designs of Teckentrup’s sectional garage doors in Pebble Grey (RAL 7032) and Agate Grey (7038)
But favourites will remain. Hands down, anthracite takes the crown! Paired with other adjacent colours, it creates a sleek, contemporary look that fits many architectural styles.
Creative Licence
There are signs – admittedly some quirky and some expected – that door manufacturers value endless design possibilities. It’s a trend that is already filtering through but will get even more pronounced with garage doors providing a canvas that can become a unique work of art. Hörmann’s X-Large Decors feature personalised motifs in a non-repeating pattern – ideal for a harmonious appearance. The new ‘VarioDesign’ also feels fresh in combined wood grain and silk grain finishes. These mixed materials feature in their LPU 42 sectional garage doors to create a door leaf with different section designs.

Eco-Friendly Materials
Eco-friendly garage doors is a trend that we’ve seen filtered through to homeowners, but will get more pronounced, with solar-powered openers, designs for disassembly at end of use, and Closed-loop Recycling – where garage doors are used, recycled, and then made into a new product.
